Michael Lodge – Tax Tip
Clients are calling our office complaining about refunds. So I need to post this one more time.
The IRS will begin processing tax returns on January 24, 2017, for taxes paid/owed in 2016. Because the IRS is trying to prevent tax refund fraud they are looking at tax returns closer – which is a good thing.
In general, the IRS says that returns with refunds are processed and payments issued within 21 days, however it can take longer depending on the processing center and other issues. Those that paper file through the IRS can see a few more days depending on the processing center.
You can track your tax returns by going to: WWW.IRS.GOV
Once your tax return is filed with the IRS your tax preparer can’t help you further – unless there is a tax issue between you and the IRS. We can’t tell you the status of your tax refund, you have to go to the IRS website and track that for yourself.
